Angela Lansbury Dies

Murder, She Wrote actress Angela Lansbury died on Tuesday (October 11th) at the age of 96—just days before her 97th birthday.

Her family wrote in a statement, “The children of Dame Angela Lansbury are sad to announce that their mother died peacefully in her sleep at home in Los Angeles at 1:30 a.m. today, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, just five days shy of her 97th birthday.”

The statement continues, “In addition to her three children, Anthony, Deirdre and David, she is survived by three grandchildren, Peter, Katherine and Ian, plus five great grandchildren and her brother, producer Edgar Lansbury. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 53 years, Peter Shaw. A private family ceremony will be held at a date to be determined.”

Lansbury’s career in television, theater, and film spanned across several decades. She is most known for her role as Jessica Fletcher on the TV show Murder, She Wrote—a role that she held for 12 years. Lansbury also won five Tony Awards for her work in musicals and plays such as Mame and Blithe Spirit. She earned several Oscar nominations for films such as Gaslight, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and The Manchurian Candidate as well.
