Province sets new COVID-19 case count high with 887; 13 more deaths Thursday

VICTORIA — B.C.’s COVID-19 pandemic has reached new heights.

In a news release, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reports 887 new cases of the virus recorded Thursday (Nov. 26). That is a new high for the province’s daily case count after a Wednesday data correction negated an earlier-reported daily high.

Sixty-five of the new cases were found within Interior Health.

For the second straight day, Henry is reporting 13 deaths from the virus, bringing the provincial death toll to 384.

The 887 new cases swell the provincial COVID-19 total to 29,973 cases, distributed through B.C. as follows:

  • 8,329 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 168)
  • 18,779 — Fraser Health (up by 612)
  • 544 — Island Health (up by 18)
  • 1,491 — Interior Health (up by 65)
  • 737 — Northern Health (up by 24)
  • 94 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Henry reports 7,899 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Thursday, with 294 people in hospital including 64 in intensive care.

Interior Health says there are 374 active cases in the region, with nine people in hospital and two in intensive care.

On the positive side, an outbreak called November 15 at The Hamlets in Westsyde has been declared over.

There are 10,307 people under active public health monitoring because they have been exposed to confirmed COVID-19 cases.

The total of those considered fully recovered from the virus has reached 19,998, or 67 per cent of all cases.
