Three people in Vancouver hospital after series of stabbings: police

Vancouver police say three people are in a hospital with serious stab wounds following a series of separate attacks.

Const. Jason Doucette says officers have arrested the 33-year-old man they believe is responsible for the assaults.

Doucette says officers responded shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Thursday to reports of a man being stabbed following an altercation at a busy intersection.

He says police received 911 calls stemming from two subsequent attacks, the last of which led to a suspect being taken into custody nearly two kilometres away.

Police say calls came in during a follow-up investigation about a fourth assault where a man was punched.

Doucette says no charges have been laid and police have not determined a motive behind the attacks.

He says he has no information to suggest the suspect is known to police.

Police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the attacks to contact them, both to provide details of the incidents and to put witnesses in touch with support services.

“I couldn’t imagine seeing something like this and just going home and thinking about it all day,” Doucette says.

“We have tools in our tool belt and resources to put these people in contact with. And if they decide they don’t want it, great. But we’d sure like to offer it.”
