KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Blazers’ defenceman Matteo Koci said turnovers and first-night jitters contributed to defeat on opening night, when the Portland Winterhawks scored five unanswered goals in the third period en route to a 5-2 victory on Sept. 20 at Sandman Centre.

“I think we were a little bit nervous,” Koci said. “We had so many turnovers. I think this week will be better.”

Kamloops will play host to the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday (Sept. 27), a 7 p.m. start at Sandman Centre.

The Blazers will see a B.C. Division opponent for the first time this season on Saturday, when the Victoria Royals come to town. Game time is 6 p.m. on Mark Recchi Way.

“I have no doubt in our team at all,” said Blazers’ forward Max Sullivan, who scored last Friday in a losing effort. “A lot of turnovers were a problem for us that game, but we’re working on that and I think we can definitely improve and come out with two wins this weekend.”
