Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm, addressed the issue of online attacks against women in the Star Wars franchise. “Because of the fan base being so male-dominated, they sometimes get attacked in ways that can be quite personal,” she told The New York Times. Daisy Ridley and Kelly Marie Tran experienced toxic fandom during the release of the recent Star Wars trilogy, and now the upcoming show, The Acolyte, is also facing criticism from some corners of the fandom for focusing on new diverse female characters. But Kennedy expressed her support for creator Leslye Headland’s vision of inclusive storytelling, saying: “That’s an easy decision for me.”
