B.C. sees 737 new cases of COVID-19, 99 in Interior

VICTORIA — Provincial health officials are reporting 737 new cases of COVID-19 Friday (Dec. 11), including 99 within Interior Health.

The new cases bring the provincial total to 40,797 since the pandemic began, distributed through B.C. as follows:

  • 10,236 — Vancouver Coastal (up 119)
  • 25,867 — Fraser Health (up by 469)
  • 758 — Island Health (up by 8)
  • 2,601 — Interior Health (up by 99)
  • 1,240 — Northern Health (up by 41)
  • 97 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 1)

In a news release, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says there are 9,589 active cases of the virus in B.C. Friday, with 342 people in hospital including 87 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 758 active cases of COVID-19, with 20 people in hospital including five in intensive care.

Eleven more people have died of COVID-19, raising the province’s death toll to 598.

There are 12,008 people under active public health monitoring because they have been exposed to COVID-19.

A total of 29,598 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 73 per cent of all known cases.

Meantime, A COVID-19 cluster in Revelstoke has been contained.

According to an IH news release, the cluster was contained to a total of 50 cases, though IH says a “small number of cases” are still expected to pop up in Revelstoke.

The community cluster was first declared on Nov. 26, with spread being blamed partly on social gatherings.
