Sobriety Sits Well with Jamie Lee Curtis

Jamie Lee Curtis has reached a truly admirable milestone: the starlet is celebrating 20 years of sobriety. In a recent interview with Variety, Curtis recalls the struggles associated with her addiction to painkillers, and the moments of familial support that gave her the push she needed to stop.

Curtis recalls receiving a prescription for painkillers after a routine plastic surgery, which led to a secret addiction that she privately fostered for years. After she conquered her addiction, she didn’t publicly announce her addiction until 2 years into her sobriety. She also reflects on the problem of dependence within her family-notably her father, Tony Curtis, who struggled with alcohol, cocaine and heroin.

Curtis read a past Esquire interview by Tom Chiarella in 1999, which helped her feel less alone in her own personal struggle; it inspired her to attend her first recovery meeting, and she has been sober ever since.
