Prince Harry Sues

Prince Harry is declaring war on the British tabloid press. The royal has filed claims in court “regarding the illegal interception of voicemail messages,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson tells CNN.

This move was made public Friday, days after Harry attacked the bloids for publishing a private letter from his wife Meghan Markle to her estranged father Thomas Markle. The actual filings were reportedly made at the High Court in London by Harry’s legal team on September 27^th.

A spokesperson for The Sun‘s parent company, the Rupert Murdoch-owned News Group Newspapers (NGN), told CNN: “We confirm that a claim has been issued by the Duke of Sussex. We have no further comment to make at the current time.”

In his original statement Harry blasted the media: “Unfortunately, my wife has become one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences — a ruthless campaign that has escalated over the past year, throughout her pregnancy and while raising our newborn son.”

He went on to reference his mother Princess Diana‘s untimely death and his fear for Meghan’s safety: “Though this action may not be the safe one, it is the right one. Because my deepest fear is history repeating itself. I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditized to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person. I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces. We thank you, the public, for your continued support. It is hugely appreciated. Although it may not seem like it, we really need it.”
