KAMLOOPS – A major summer electrical storm swept through Kamloops Tuesday night, knocking out hydro to more than 5,100 B.C. Hydro customers.

The storm struck around around 6:30pm and produced winds that gusted up to 69 kph according to Environment Canada.

Much of the North Shore, Mission Flats and University areas lost electricity.

Other communities through the region were also affected by outages.

It’s not clear when power will be completely restored to the area.
