Hot Nite in the City celebrates a quarter century in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Automobiles may be the defining invention of the 20th century. However, personal transportation is currently undergoing a massive change with the switch to electric cars well underway.

Despite that shift, there is still a great deal of love for the internal combustion engine. That love was on full display in downtown Kamloops on Saturday, as Hot Nite in the City celebrated its 25th anniversary. The event draws hundreds of exciting cars, old and new, from all over the place.

There was something for everyone at the 25th edition of Hot Nite in the City in downtown Kamloops on Saturday. On every corner, there was something to draw the eye. A big red boat. A jacked up truck. Or some good old fashioned American muscle.

Dave Brummund of Kamloops had his 1969 Dodge Coronet parked on the corner of Third and Victoria Street. He says when you have a car like his, it’s like a beacon for other car lovers.

“The biggest thing is, and you hear it a lot at car shows, is where somebody comes up and says ‘I had one of those and I wish I hadn’t got rid of it,’” Brummund said. “We’ve all had cars like that, that we had to get rid of because of, guess what, marriage, kids and everything else.”

Right next to Dave’s car was Ken Singelton from Surrey and his 1966 Mustang GT.

For him, the best part of the event isn’t just showing off YOUR sweet set of wheels.

“I like to see other people’s cars,” Singleton explained. “There’s some incredible time and money and effort put into these cars. It is an amazing event.”
