KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops man charged in a 2016 baseball bat beating near his Brocklehurst property will make an application for bail Friday.

Kristopher Teichrieb is accused in the June, 2016 beating of 19 year old Jessie Simpson near the corner of Holt Street and Clifford Avenue, and is charged with attempted murder.

Crown Prosecutor Wendy Stephen says she expects Teichrieb will apply for surety bail in a Kelowna courtroom, with recommended conditions of house arrest and electronic monitoring.

Stephen says “in the circumstances as they now exist,” Crown will not oppose Teichrieb’s application.

“I’ve spoken with both Jessie’s mother and father and told them what is happening. They’re completely in the loop of all of this,” said Stephen.

“What the Crown has to do is look at the application that has been made, apply the law and the facts of the matter as we know it and make a decision about what our position is going to be,” said Stephen. “Our job is to do the best to ensure the public is protected and that the public interest is preserved.”

Teichrieb was initially denied bail about six weeks after the incident, and is being held at Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre.

His trial is scheduled to begin October 22.

Court proceedings are being held in Kelowna, due to the high profile nature of the incident in Kamloops.
