Traps set, trails closed after bear attacks hiker near Squamish, B.C.

SQUAMISH, B.C. — Trails were closed in a mountain community north of Vancouver after a bear attacked a hiker.

The District of Squamish says in a Facebook post that a man and a woman were hiking in the Merrill Park area on Sunday afternoon when a female bear spotted them and charged.

Northbound lanes of Coquihalla now open- Southbound to open at approx. 0830

MERRITT, B.C. — UPDATE — The north bound lanes of the Coquihalla opened this morning at 5:00 AM after being closed since yesterday morning south of Merritt. The south bound lanes are expected to be open about 0830.

Hazmat crews worked throughout the night to clean up the accident site.
