Backlash for Vogue Cover With Kim Kardashian West

Feb 28, 2018 | 5:00 AM

Not everyone is thrilled that Kim Kardashian West has landed her seventh cover for Vogue.

The 37-year-old KKW mogul unveiled a cover for Vogue India on Instagram, sparking a backlash from readers who claimed they wanted to see a person of South Asian descent. Kardashian West is of Armenian descent.

  • Vogue India also got blowback when it featured Kendall Jenner on its May 2017 cover. The pub hastily released a statement at the time: “In the last 10 years, Vogue India has had only 12 international covers, including Kendall Jenner in 2017. Therefore, statistically, 90% of our covers are Indian! And we are proud of that. India has given the world so many beautiful faces to admire. After all, we are Vogue, an international brand, and we want to give the love back by featuring some of the best international celebrities on over covers. Occasionally!”
  • Meanwhile, inside, Kardashian West dishes on her family’s best and worst qualities.
  • On the good: “My brother’s sense of humor. Kendall’s sweetness. Khlo‘s I-don’t-give-a-f–k attitude. Kourtney‘s savviness around finances. Kylie’s ability to just go for it and not care what other people’s opinions are. And my mom’s nurturing,” she said.
  • Aside from mom Kris who she claims “is perfect,” the bad: “Maybe… Kourtney’s stubbornness. And Khlo’s getting too sensitive,” she said. “I would take away Kendall’s anxiety, Kylie’s ‘I don’t care, I know what I’m doing’ thing and probably my brother’s moodiness.”
