A letter containing white powder is being investigated by Scotland Yard. Police say Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were the intended recipients, according to reports. Police say the investigation is being treated as a “racist hate crime.”

The letter was received this month at St. James’ Palace in London, and while the powder was found to be harmless, it prompted an anthrax scare. The letter also contained a note which has been characterized as racist. Suits star Markle is biracial.

  • While this is the first security incident the public has become aware of, it is certainly not the first time she has encountered bigotry as first the girlfriend, and now the fianc, of Prince Harry.
  • Last month, Paul Nehlen, a Republican Congressional candidate, was banned from Twitter over his racist tweet about Markle. In December, Princess Michael of Kent wore a racist brooch to a royal lunch with the couple. (She later apologized).
  • Markle and Harry are set to marry on May 19th in a televised ceremony at St. George’s Chapel in London.
