After 90 years in show business, Minnie Mouse finally got the recognition she deserves. Katy Perry, dressed in polka dots, and helped present the world’s favorite female mouse with her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday.

The 33-year-old singer shared that her very first memory is of Mickey and Minnie mouse diapers, so she’s literally been a lifelong fan.

“The definition of icon may fluctuate through the ages, but there are some undeniably special characters who are iconic and I can’t think of anyone who embodies that more than my dear friend Minerva Mouse (Minnie’s full name),” said Perry.

“Seeing Minnie is like returning home. It is a special skill to bring joy to so many and she does it with an effortless bat of a lash,” she continued.

Katy also gave the Disney star props for her fashion sense. “Her style is the epitome of fun fashion,” noted Katy. “To this day, no one rocks a bow, the color red or a dot quite like her. Trust me, I’m trying!”

She finished by noting, “So today, a brief 40 years after Mickey got his star, I’m delighted to honor Minnie and her magic with hers.”

Perry was dressed in the iconic ‘toon’s red and white polka dots by wearing a custom dress and hat by Christian Siriano. Minnie wore a custom Coach look that coincided with the celebration of the brand’s launch of a special-edition Disney x Coach collection inspired by her and National Polka Dot Day.

Minnie Mouse debuted alongside Mickey Mouse in the 1928 film Steamboat Willie and has since appeared in more than 70 films. Mickey became the first cartoon character to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Steamboat Willie in 1978. He was followed by other Disney characters such as Donald Duck, Tinkerbelle, Winnie the Pooh, Snow White and Kermit the Frog.
