CATHERINE ZETA-JONES RESPONDS TO MICHAEL DOUGLAS’ MISCONDUCT ALLEGATIONS: Catherine Zeta-Jones is speaking out for the first time about allegations that her husband Michael Douglas sexually harassed an employee. He preemptively issued a statement saying the allegations were not true when he learned a story was going to be published. “My reaction was that as two people who have been in this business – him longer than me — was that we support ‘Me Too’ and the movement more than anybody, anybody – me as a woman, him as a man,” Jones, said on Sunday at the Television Critics Association. “And there was no other way than to be preemptive in a story that had to be watched. He did a statement, he did it. I think it’s very clear the way that he stands. I cannot elaborate on something that’s so very personal to him.” She says she will continue to be a strong advocate for the #MeToo movement: “It’s an amazing time for women, and I really want women to remember how strong we are in numbers.” (ET Online)
JAMIE LEE CURTIS OPENS UP ABOUT ELIZA DUSHKU’S MOLESTATION CLAIMS: Jamie Lee Curtis has penned an essay for The Huffington Post discussing the molestation claims made by her True Lies costar Eliza Dushku. The actress, who was 12 when True Lies was filmed, claims stuntman Joel Kramer molested her during the film’s production. He denies the claims. In her essay, the 59-year-old Curtis writes: “She had shared that story with me privately a few years ago. I was shocked and saddened then and still am today.” Curtis concluded, writing: The actress concluded by calling for more people to come forward, writing, “The truth will set us all free. Hopefully that freedom will bring a new ability to call out abuse and, when the abuse occurs, to have swift and consistent action, so that no one again will have to wait 25 years for their truth to be heard.” (HuffPost)
AZIZ ANSARI RESPONDS TO SEXUAL MISCONDUCT ACCUSATION: After an unnamed 23-year-old photographer accused Aziz Ansari of misconduct during a date last year, he spoke out about the incident. He issued a statement claiming he thought their sexual activity was consensual and was “surprised and concerned” when she texted him later to explain she felt uncomfortable. He wrote: “I took her words to heart and responded privately after taking the time to process what she had said. I continue to support the movement that is happening in our culture. It is necessary and long overdue.” (Vulture)
CATHERINE DENEUVE WALKS BACK #METOO OPEN LETTER: Last week, French superstar Catherine Deneuve incited a firestorm when she joined more than 100 French women who penned an open letter that questioned the merits of the #MeToo movement. After being lashed on social media and elsewhere, Deneuve was moved to elaborate. In another open letter, she wrote: “I am a free woman and I will remain so. I welcome all the victims of odious acts that may have felt aggrieved by this letter published in Le Monde. It is to them and to them alone that I apologize.” (Vulture)
