A Way Home Kamloops – Camp Out For Homeless Youth

Domino’s Camp out for Homeless Youth

Youth homlessness is a significant issue in our community. During last year’s count, there were 56 kids (minimal number) without a home in Kamloops. The causes of youth homelessness are distinct and can include familial conflict and abuse, poverty, or aging out of foster-care. Some youth may have disabilities and others may have never lived independantly from adult-caregivers. Youth experience higher levels of victimization and trauma on the streets, which is why early intervention is crucial. A WayHome Kamloops is working to create the housing option these youth need: Safe Suites. This is a home where youth can be safe and supported to leave the streets behind.

Kamloops Domino’s Pizza has stepped up to the plate and is challenging other businesses and professionals in the community to camp out on December 15th from 10 PM to 6 AM. Please provide a donation to pledge your support. You will be supporting your pledgee to spend one night out in the cold to raise funds to end youth homelessness in Kamloops. You can stop by Domino’s to support your pledgee or watch a live facebook feed of their experience. There is a prize for the camper who collects the most pledges.

All donations will go directly towards Kamloops’ Youth Safe Suites to bridge the transition from homelessness into housing. Cheques can be made out to United Way Thomspon-Nicola-Cariboo (A Way Home’s backbone organization) and given to your pledged camper. If you prefer other methods of payment, please contact A Way Home Kamloops or Domino’s Pizza. A tax receipt for donations pver $20 will be provided by United Way ob behalf of A Way Home.
