Dear candidates: run again

September 30, 2017 - 11:03pm

KAMLOOPS — Among the 27 candidates, there were three winners in Saturday's by-election — but there could be a whole host of future winners in that bunch, too.

Ken Christian was always going to win the mayor's chair. For years he has been the city's most popular politician, regularly garnering more votes than anyone else running for any other civic office. Those voters certainly weren't going to turn against him in favour of lesser-experienced, lesser-known candidates.

September 29, 2017 - 3:25pm

KAMLOOPS — Those arguing the heated "kneeling during the national anthem" debate are on two different pages, and could benefit from understanding the terms of reference.

Since then, Kaepernick has been effectively black-balled.

KAMLOOPS — If you're a woman and you want to get involved in politics or leadership, God forbid anyone ever find you attractive.

It's good to be attractive, I suppose, but men in leadership will never let you forget that your body is all they see.

Any argument you make will be met with a skepticism coloured by objectification.

KAMLOOPS — Hydropothecary is ready for the revolution.

Or at least that's what Terry Lake, a new executive with the Gatineau-based company, would have you believe.

Hydropothecary produces medical marijuana for the Quebec market, but is positioning itself to be a big player when the Trudeau government follows through on its promise to legalize recreational pot.

For Lake, who undoubtedly had his pick of private sector offers when he stepped away from public life, it's a logical move.
