B.C. woman accused of beating dog that had to be euthanized facing two charges

COURTENAY, B.C. — The SPCA says charges of animal cruelty have been laid against a Vancouver Island woman accused of beating a dog that had to be euthanized.

It says Kylie Nikkels of Courtenay, B.C., will face two charges at a court appearance scheduled for Oct. 20.

B.C. Liberals reject nomination bid from former cabinet minister Terry Segarty

CRANBROOK, B.C. — A former Social Credit cabinet minister in British Columbia won’t get another crack at provincial politics as a Liberal.

The party’s candidate approval process has rejected an application from Terry Segarty to seek the Liberal nomination in Kootenay East.

Merritt Mayor keeping fingers crossed on Coquihalla maintenance this winter

MERRITT  —  There's already been one travel advisory this fall for the Coquihalla highway. Snowfall Saturday resulted in a number of accidents for police. That's raised some concerns about whether or not maintenance of the highway will be better this year than it was last.
