Cache Creek residents return home after being forced out by fires

CACHE CREEK, B.C. — Residents of a village in British Columbia’s Interior are thrilled to be heading home after being rushed out by a fast-moving wildfire, but they fear an uphill battle in repairing the community’s tourism economy.

B.C. wildfires burning out of control; province-wide state of emergency declared

ASHCROFT, B.C. — British Columbia is under a province-wide state of emergency as wildfires that have forced thousands from their homes show no sign of abating.

The BC Wildfire Service says in a tweet that 138 new wildfires sprang up on Friday alone, consuming dozens of buildings.

BC Liberal Donna Barnett elected in Cariboo-Chilcotin

100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — BC Liberal Donna Barnett has been re-elected in Cariboo-Chilcotin.

The former 100 Mile House mayor won the riding by a sizeable margin over NDP challenger Sally Watson and Rita Giesbrecht of the Green Party.

Barnett will serve a third term in Victoria.
