CHASE, B.C. — A Chase-area man is facing several charges following a machete attack.

Chase RCMP say it occurred on Tuesday and caused one man a serious injury.

The victim was airlifted to hospital in Kamloops.

It all started when Mounties responded to a report of a fight at a residence in the 8500 block of Holding Road near Adams Lake.

“Chase RCMP, RCMP Police Dog Services and BC Ambulance Service arrived on scene to find the victim, a 50 year old male from Lee Creek, had sustained a severe cut to his hand,” says the Chase RCMP. “Air ambulance was requested and transported the victim to Royal Inland Hospital where he would require surgery for his injuries. The suspect had fled from the scene.”

Police determined the victim was involved in a fight with a 44 year old man from the Chase area during which the suspect brandished a large machete-style knife and struck the victim causing the injury.

On Wednesday, the suspect turned himself in to the Chase RCMP and was arrested. He was later released on a promise to appear in court in Kamloops on June 4, 2018.

Police are recommending charges of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purposes and mischief.

The victim and suspect are casual acquaintances, though the motive for the attack is unknown. Alcohol is considered to be a factor.
