Budget, cannabis sales highlight Tuesday council sessions

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Councillors will have a busy day tomorrow.

At tomorrow morning’s budget meeting, councillors will discuss the final tax rate to be set for this year.

It’s expected to be somewhere around 2-3 percent, depending on the final approval of supplementary projects.

At the regular council meeting tomorrow afternoon, the city will discuss zoning changes that will help regulate the sale of non-medical cannabis when the federal government makes it legal later this year.

Under the proposals, the city is looking at limiting sales to certain areas within the city, and ensuring that any facilities are a minimum distance from schools and other community facilities.

Staff are recommending the proposed bylaw be read and taken to public hearing.
