SD73: Minivan incident a chance to discuss ‘stranger danger’ with kids

KAMLOOPS — An unsettling incident near Brock Middle School has prompted the Kamloops School District to remind parents to discuss the concept of ‘stranger danger’ with their kids.

SD73 spokesperson Robert Koopmans says it stems from something that happened Thursday.

“Our school took the step of notifying parents of an incident that they became aware of yesterday,” he says. “A Grade 7 student reported to the school that she was approached by a woman in a dark mini-van as she was walking between Southill and Desmond Street.”

Koopmans says the student was asked if she needed a drive home and whether she was okay.

“The student didn’t recognize the person as someone she was familiar with and as a result she reported the incident to the school.”

He says the RCMP were notified along with the school’s parent community so that they can have discussions “with their children about stranger danger.”
