Kamloops MP: Trudeau government must ensure Kinder Morgan pipeline gets built

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo Conservative MP Cathy McLeod says she’s “profoundly worried” by Kinder Morgan’s decision to halt all non-essential work and spending on its $7.5 billion Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.

The company said Sunday it did so because of legal challenges and protests against the project in B.C. and the consequent risk it was placing on company shareholders.

“It sends a terrible message. We already know that foreign investment is fleeing this country and this pipeline has gone through due diligence, it’s been approved and it’s the federal government’s responsibility to make sure it gets done. The federal government has lots of opportunities to ensure it gets done and I think they need to do that,” says McLeod.

She said the stalled project is not an isolated incident.
