KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say the discovery of Thelma Vaughan’s body has yet to yield any significant clues as to what happened to the woman.

Vaughan’s car was discovered on February 7, parked near the Lafarge Bridge over the South Thompson River.

At the time, investigators said the car had been there since February 3.

An extensive search was undertaken, finding no sign of Vaughan until her body was found near Sun Rivers Wednesday.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says RCMP don’t believe criminal activity was responsible for Vaughan’s death and disappearance, but police will continue to assist the BC Coroners Service in determining what actually took place.

“Obviously something happened, and we’re not sure what the circumstances were of how she came to be in the river. So at this time, we can’t speculate on how that happened,” said Shelkie.

Vaughan was an avid winter sports enthusiast, and Shelkie says it will be up to the coroner to determine if there was a medical event or accident that occurred resulting in the woman’s death.
