SHACKAN RESERVE, B.C. — BC Wildfire Service crews are tackling a blaze that sparked up yesterday northwest of Merritt.

Fire Information Officer Jody Lucius says the 10-hectare fire is burning near the Shackan First Nation reserve, about 43 kilometres northwest of Merritt.

“There are 11 firefighters on scene today, and they’re working on some fire guard and putting out hot spots,” said Lucius.

“It is burning on a steep slope, and yesterday they said it was grass and brush that was burning.”
