‘Above average’ spring temperatures in store for Kamloops: Environment Canada

KAMLOOPS — After enduring a cold and snowy winter, finally some payback for Kamloopsians on the weather front.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Doug Lundquist says it appears March, April, and May will be warmer than normal.

“We look at different computer outcomes and try to figure out what is the most chosen outcome for spring — whether it`s near normal, above average or below average for those three months and it looks like the likelihood is for above average temperatures,” he says. 

Lundquist made the comments on Tuesday’s spring equinox — which officially took place at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday though he argues the start of spring actually began March 1.

“The spring equinox is when the sun crosses the equator. But for us meterologists it lands already part way through spring because we’re more logical and the weather actually starts to warm up earlier in the year and we count the whole month of March as spring.”
