Growing concerns over pressure on agricultural land

VICTORIA —   A review of agricultural land policies in British Columbia has collected nearly 1,000 responses from the public half way through the government’s outreach process.

The B-C government launched an independent review of its Agricultural Land Reserve policies earlier this year, which includes an online survey and meetings with local stakeholders across the province.

Chair of the committee overseeing the review Jennifer Dyson says they’ve heard concerns about growing pressures on agricultural land and the need to support farm and ranch businesses.

The Agricultural Land Reserve protects and encourages farming in B-C, and the government says any legislative changes recommended by the review committee are anticipated by early 2019.
