KAMLOOPS — The kids are out of school for the next week as spring break begins, and there are plenty of activities for children to do around the city.

On Friday, students from different schools around the city got a bit of a pool day at Canada Games Pool. Kids will have the opportunity to play in the pool all next week, as the city is opening the pool for public swims.

“The Canada Games Pool is going to be our busiest. We have public swimming every day, Monday to Friday, from 1-4 p.m.,” said the city’s health and sport development supervisor Linda Stride. “Our theme this year is ‘games and swim,’ so they’re going to be playing a bunch of games like Pokemon and incorporating different board games into the pool. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

The City of Kamloops is also organizing activities at the museum around the new ski exhibit ‘Powder Keg.’

“One program will be ‘build your own ski suit.’ Another will be around looking at the Olympic flags, so decorating our stairwell with all the Olympic flags,” noted Stride. “Those are a little bit shorter, those will be two hours in the morning and a couple hours in the afternoon for those that aren’t looking for full-day activities.”

Meantime, the B.C. Wildlife Park has activities every day during spring break for kids interested in learning more about animals.

“We’ve got kids camp going all five days. You can either register your kids for the entire week or one or two days, whatever suits your needs,” said park general manager Glenn Grant. “But there are a ton of activities for kids. There’s arts and crafts, there’s a couple snacks during the day. It’s all about the ‘edu-tainment,’ so we want to educate them a little about the wildlife but we also want to make it a lot of fun and entertaining as well.”
