KAMLOOPS — The first golf course in Kamloops opened on Friday, marking the unofficial start to spring.

Rivershore Estate and Golf Links officially welcomed its first golfers of the season after the long, snowy winter we’ve had, and the nice weather encouraged people to pull out their golf clubs and hit the links.

“Pretty excited, not going to lie,” said golfer Davis Brunt. “It’s been a long winter, so I’m looking forward to getting out here and hitting some balls.”

A dozen or more groups hit the links on Friday, taking advantage of the balmy weather in the valley bottom, a big reason why Rivershore was able to open on March 16.

“The weather, for a lack of anything else,” said head golf pro Kevin Oates. “The snow left here a little bit earlier than anywhere else in the city, so snow’s gone, let’s get golfers on the course.”

Even CFJC Today’s Chad Klassen got in his first swings of the year, playing the first hole and two-putting for par.

Meantime, the golfers are just happy to be out, enjoying the sunshine and views around Rivershore with no snow in the valley, only in higher elevations. The expectations for the first game of the year somewhat levelled.

“Like three-under, probably four,” joked Brunt. “No, no, honestly no expectations. Just happy to be out here.”
