Chamber hears ‘state of the city,’ elects new board

KAMLOOPS — “The city of Kamloops is having an awakening.”

Those are the words of Mayor Ken Christian, who gave a “State of the City” address to the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce yesterday.

Christian went over several indicators to back up his bold statement, including a record 2017 in the local building sector.

The mayor says he has every reason to believe the city has hit a growth spurt, saying “there’s a good vibe in the business community.”

As part of the chamber Annual General Meeting, the organization’s new executive board was confirmed.

It includes Joshua Knaak of FIT Financial taking over as the new president from the outgoing Paul Ross.

In a statement, Knaak said, “With thanks to this past year’s board and all of their hard work, I look forward to leading our team through our strategic plan this year. We have solid direction and a strong board that will certainly make this a dynamic year.”
