KAMLOOPS — A 55 year old Logan Lake man is dead and a 66 year old man is facing second degree murder charges after a reported stabbing at the Copper Valley Motel.

“We are able to confirm that 66 year old Gordon Fleming of Logan Lake was arrested at the motel and is now charged with second degree murder in connection with the death of the 55 year old male who was also a resident,” said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk of the Southeast RCMP District.

The death occurred around 6:40 Tuesday morning. The Logan Lake RCMP were called to the Copper Valley Motel on Apex Road following a complaint to police.

“On their attendance, they located an unresponsive male in one of the hotel rooms. BC Ambulance and the local fire crews also attended in an effort to provide emergency medical aid. However, they were unable to successfully revive the man, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene,” noted Moskaluk.

RCMP say the two were known to each other.

CFJC Today received reports of a stabbing on Tuesday, but the Southeast RCMP is not confirming that was how the killing took place.

“At this time, we’re not in a position to be confirming the injuries sustained nor has there been a full determination of the cause of death.”

The major crimes unit out of Kelowna remain on the scene in Logan Lake and will be speaking to more witnesses today to get a clearer picture of what happened.

Fleming is in custody and is scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday (March 7) in Kamloops.

NOTE: An earlier version of the story had the victim being a 65 year old man. He was in fact 55 years old, according to RCMP.
