VERNON — A driver is facing fines and possible charges after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in downtown Vernon.

A 73 year old woman was struck by a truck on 30th Street by Martens Brew Pub Tuesday morning, and is recovering from her injuries.

“The driver of the truck involved remained on scene and was cooperative with police,” says Cst. Kelly Brett. “Investigation into the incident lead officers to enter into an impaired operation of motor vehicle investigation and the male driver was found to be in possession of a controlled substance. The male was subsequently arrested for possession of a controlled substance and issued a 24 hour driving prohibition. The driver also received two violation tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act.”

The 34 year old male driver is also accused of breaching his court conditions by having a knife, and will appear in court May 24.
