Man arrested in high-risk takedown at Sahali motel

KAMLOOPS — 4:35 p.m. — RCMP have released more details about a high-risk arrest at the Star Lodge on Columbia Street West this afternoon.

Officers moved in on the motel at about 2:30 p.m. in order to arrest a 31 year old man wanted on an outstanding warrant.

According to S/Sgt. Edward Preto, the man is known to police and known to carry weapons.

About a dozen officers with weapons drawn were seen on the property.

Preto says the suspect complied with the officers’ request to leave the hotel room, and he was arrested without incident.

The man has a court date tomorrow.

 

3:20 p.m. — The situation at the Star Lodge appears to be winding down.

Officers took a man away in handcuffs at about 3:15 p.m., and investigators were talking to two women.

While officers on scene would not comment to media, they did expect to release more information later this afternoon.

 

3:05 p.m. — Kamloops RCMP have closed in on a Sahali hotel this afternoon.

Officers could be seen with guns drawn at the Star Lodge on Columbia Street West, aiming their weapons at a second floor unit.

The Kamloops detachment has yet to reveal the cause of the situation.
