KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Mounties arrested a man with a loaded gun outside the downtown branch of the Kamloops Public Library Thursday afternoon.

RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says at around 2:20 p.m. the RCMP's Crime Reduction Unit and Police Dog Services arrested "a suspicious male" outside the library on the corner of Victoria Street and Fifth Avenue.

She says incidental to the arrest, police located a loaded rifle with the man.

"The 39 year old will be going before a judge tomorrow. He was previously known to police and is from Kamloops."

Shelkie says the BC Prosecution Service will assess the evidence and determine any criminal charges.

"Definitely, it's concerning. Luckily, our police officers were there and noted, spoke to him and at that time decided to effect an arrest. But yes, it is concerning."
