Former Barriere fire chief sentenced for child porn

KAMLOOPS — The former chief of the Barriere fire department has been sentenced to jail time after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography.

Al Kirkwood was charged after incidents in July and October of 2016.

As part of the investigation, RCMP searched Kirkwood’s home as well as his office at the Barriere fire hall.

He resigned from the position in October of 2016, as well as from his position as publisher of the North Thompson Star Journal and the Clearwater Times.
