KAMLOOPS — A police search warrant of a home in Campbell Creek has made for a disturbing discovery.

Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the search of a home on Badger Drive, the site of a home invasion early Tuesday morning, has uncovered a “suspected explosive device.”

Because the homeowners were uncooperative with police, Mounties sought and executed the search warrant Tuesday night.

“While examining the residence, police found what is believed to be an explosive device,” says Shelkie. “As a result, the RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit from the Lower Mainland was called to attend and neutralize the device.”

She adds the investigation is ongoing, noting “we are committed to a safe and secure Kamloops and everone’s safety is always our first concern. As such, we felt it is prudent at this time to rely on the experts from our explosive disposal unit to examine this scene and remedy any potential threat that may exist.”

Shelkie says more information will “be available in due course” adding once the residence is declared safe, officers will continue their search.
