Freezing rain warnings over, but highways still slick

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE — 7:00 AM-  Highway 97 has reopened north of Clinton earlier than planned after an overnight accident.

Originally, the highways wasn’t scheduled to reopen until 10:30 AM.

 

EARLIER — One person died in a crash between a semi truck and an small SUV on Highway 97A in Spallumcheen Tuesday morning

One occupant of the SUV that had Alberta license plates was killed with two others taken to hospital.

Constable Kelly Brett says the weather may have been a factor.

She says the weather was slippery and slushy.

The highway was closed for 6 hours for the police investigation.

Meanwhile, highway 97 is closed in both directions 43 kilometers north of Clinton this morning because of an overnight accident. Few details have been issued on the incident, but the Drive B.C. web site says the highway isn’t expected to reopen until at least 10:30 this morning. 

The freezing rain warnings have all been rescinded in our area this morning.

We did get a bit of freezing rain in Kamloops, and RCMP say there were several minor accidents.

Some accidents on the highways as well yesterday due to the slick roadways. This morning, slushy and some slippery sections on most interior routes. 

There is a good chance of some snow this morning, turning to rain showers. Some freezing rain is possible on all sections of the Coquihalla today.

Not a lot of snow forecast, but the freezing rain could be an issue depending on when you’re travelling. Snow forecast for the Trans Canada in the Rogers Pass area today. Up to 10 centimeters with a chance of some freezing rain.
