KAMLOOPS — One door closes, another one opens.

That’s the case at Kamloops’ Aberdeen Mall where Le Chateau closed over the weekend, to be replaced by makeup giant Sephora this coming summer.

“It’s super exciting news,” said mall General Manager Sandra Neufeld. “They are going to be joining us in the location that was formerly occupied by Le Chateau on the upper level of the centre. The store will be a full Sephora store. It’s going to be 4,300 square feet in size and it’ll be their newest concept store.”

No official word on why Le Chateau decided to close its doors though the fashion chain announced it would closing 40 stores last year over the next five years due to financial woes.

Meantime, Aberdeen Mall has yet to announce what it plans to do with the massive space previously occupied by Sears though Neufeld says her staff is hard at work trying to find a new tenant.

“We are working on a number of plans for the Sears space, it’s keeping our leasing department very busy, there’s a lot of interest which is exciting because we’re in negotiations with a number of different retailers for that location,” Neufeld says. “But at this point in time we have no signed details, these are just negotiations that are taking place.”
