Grand Chief says indigenous people “won’t back down”

VANCOUVER — Union of BC Indian Chiefs Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, in his New Year’s day message, let it be known that indigenous people will not back down to KInder Morgan or governments.

He referred to the year as Battleground 2018.

Phillip referred to the battle against the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion, the United Nations’ Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the NDP government’s “heavy-hearted” approval of BC Hydro’s Site C dam that he says will now flood thousands of hectares of traditional lands.
