KAMLOOPS — The Blazers brought in the New Year with a 4-1 home ice win over the Victoria Royals.

After a scoreless first Tyler Soy opened the scoring for Victoria a minute into the second on the power play.

The Blazers tied it a few minutes later when Carson Denomie scored from Jermaine Loewen and Garrett Pilon.

That snapped a home-ice scoreless drought at 152 minutes and 35 seconds going back to the third period of a 3-1 loss to Everett a month ago today, on December 1.

Nick Chyzowski gave Kamloops a 2-1 lead on a power play set up from Connor Zary and Quinn Benjafield midway through the third.

With six and a half minutes left Benjafield sent Brodi Stuart on a breakaway for his 11th of the season and a 3-1 lead.

Benjafield would pick up his third point of the game with an empty-net goal in the final minute for a 4-1 Blazers victory.

Kamloops outshot Victoria 47-24 with Griffin Outhouse making 43 saves for the Royals while Dylan Ferguson stopped 23 for the Blazers.

Victoria was 1-for-5 on the power play — Kamloops was 1-for-3.

The Blazers next game is Saturday when they once again host Victoria.
