VICTORIA —    B-C residents can look forward to a significant reduction on Medical Service Plan premiums in the New Year.

The provincial government says fees will be cut by 50 per cent on January 1st.

The income threshold for exemption from the fees will also be raised by two-thousand dollars, meaning individuals who earn less than 26-thousand dollars annually and couples with children earning less than 35-thousand dollars annually will no longer have to pay.

Finance Minister Carole James says the changes are the first step in relieving people from the burden of the fees, which the government intends to eliminate within the next four years.
