Holiday travelers descend on YKA

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Airport is a beehive of activity today in what’s been billed as one of the busiest travel days of the year.

“People are either returning from Christmas holidays with family and friends or on their way to holiday destinations or taking in the New Year in other places,” says Airport Operations Manager Jeff Scherban. “Today and tomorrow are the anticipated busiest days. It just depends on the holidays that people take and a lot of it is based around when people’s kids are in school.”

And despite a few delays, he says have been running smoothly so far.

“The operations are going really well. The guys are doing a great job keeping the runways clear and open and the baggage handlers are doing a great job. So, so far, so good.”

Scherban says there’s also a few things travelers can do to ensure things run smoothly.

“People should definitely check with their carriers and our website at www.kamloopsairport.com and look at the departures and arrivals,” he says. “And arrive early, an hour and a half for domestic flights, which allows our agents to work with passengers on rescheduling and adjusting as needed and for adequate time to get through security.”
