City of Kamloops completes Grasslands Boulevard Extension

KAMLOOPS — Not on time, but definitely on budget.

That’s the end result of the City of Kamloops’ Grasslands Boulevard extension, which is now complete. Construction on the development started last May and was supposed to wrap up over two months ago.

The extension connects Batchelor Drive to Westsyde Road. In addition to the construction of the new road, the project included drainage, lighting, water service improvements and a new sidewalk.

“We were hoping to be done with the extension by the end of September,” says Capital Projects Manager Darren Crundwell. “We did have some delays in the summer so it did take us longer than we wanted. We’re a couple of months past due and I do apologize to the residents of the area there. It’s quite a bit of construction and a big impact on that neighbourhood but it’s finally done.”

He blames the delays on a number of factors, including last summer’s wildfires, some utility issues and the fact the work was located in an older neighbourhood.

“It did take longer than we wanted but I hope residents in both Westsyde and Batchelor Heights see the value in the connection.”

Crundwell tags the total price tag of the work at $2 million.
