Blazers shutout, bear in the air on waved off goal

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers were shutout for the first time this season in a 4-0 home ice loss to the Kootenay Ice.

The grind of three games in less than 48 hours were evident as the game went on.

This was the annual teddy bear toss game.

Nick Chyzowski scored early in the first —- but hold on —– hey Donald, fake goal!

It was waved off on a goaltender interference penalty to Kamloops — but too late to prevent the bevy of bear from filling the air.

Just as well, because after that it was all Kootenay.

The Ice led 1-0 after the first, 2-0 after two and added two more in the third.

Penalties hurt the Blazers, leaving them shorthanded on eight Kootenay power plays, on which the Ice scored once.

Duncan McGovern stopped 27 shots for the shutout, the first time the Blazers have been blanked since a 4-0 loss to Portland on February 13 last season.

The Blazers now embark on a six game road trip to the East Division.

Their next home game is Friday, December 29, against the Kelowna Rockets.
