Kamloops — What about the Kamloops Storm?

Is their future in Kamloops, or somewhere else?

A few months ago it came to our attention that Kamloops Minor Hockey had talked to Storm owner Barry Dewar about buying the junior team.

Dewar says he’s 65 and probably will think eventually about retiring, but doesn’t think anything will happen in the near future.

Kamloops Minor President Jon Pankuch says the association still has an interest, if and when Dewar decides it might be time to leave the game.

“Barry and I have been talking over the years” says Pankuch, “the league likes having the team here, we like having the team here — it would be the evalution of a stepping stone for some kids who play minor hockey who are at that level — we have a lot of infrastructure within minor hockey, so it would’nt be taking on a lot of extra expences and manpower — I don’t know if it will happen, but we’re always willing to keep hockey in Kamloops — so if we can ever make something work, then great.”
