KAMLOOPS — The B.C. Lottery Corporation’s plans to move the headquarters in Kamloops are going ahead smoothly, according to the province’s attorney general David Eby, who said last week plans are taking shape and there is a strong chance a bigger workforce will be needed.

Eby was in Kamloops on Friday, and during his visit he addressed BCLC, and in particular the news of money laundering at casinos in the Lower Mainland. Eby also talked about the headquarters in Kamloops and his committment to keep it here.

“I understand BCLC continues to move ahead with that, certainly with my support,” he said. “They have gone out to proposal with a number of firms, four firms I understand that are engaged. That’s very positive for BCLC and for the public.”

With a newer and bigger headquarters coming to Kamloops, and issues such as money laundering and responsible gaming, Eby noted BCLC could be looking for more people to hire.

“We think there are a number of different areas, one of which is responsible gaming where we can improve things and ensure we have the services necessary for people struggling with addiction,” said Eby. “I’m not sure what Mr. [Peter] German’s recommendations will be around getting money laundering under control, but it’s quite possible we will have to bring on additional staff to deal with that.”
