Kamloops Walmart evacuated after online threat

KAMLOOPS — Update: Walmart in Kamloops has reopened following this afternoon’s online threat.

The threat was made on a public website prompting Walmart and police to evacuate customers and employees at around 12:10 p.m.

Mounties say the store has been searched and the threat has been deemed false.

The Kamloops RCMP says police officers are speaking with the person who moderates the webpage that the theat was made on to find out its origin.

The investigation is ongoing.

Earlier:The Kamloops Walmart has been evacuated.

It happened today at approximately 12:10 p.m. after RCMP were notified of a threat made to the store.

“This threat was made on the internet on a public website and reported to the police by people monitoring the site,” says Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie. “Kamloops RCMP consulted with Walmart Management and, as a precaution to ensure the absolute safety of customers and employees, the store was evacuated until it was proven safe.”

Police officers are on scene assisting Walmart management in securing the business. There have been no injuries or any physical threat found within the store.

Once the premises have been thoroughly secured, customers will be allowed back in.
