Blazers solid in overtime win over Tri-Cities

KAMLOOPS — Joe Gatenby’s 5th goal of the season 40 seconds into overtime gave the Blazers a 3-2 win over the Tri-City Americans.

Garrett Pilon shot the puck to the net and Gatenby tipped it in over the glove of Patrick Dea.

It’s the Blazers first home-ice win of the season.

After Tri-Cities opened the scoring on a goal by Riley Sawchuk in the first period, Keltie Jeri-Leon with his first of the season tied it against his former team.

The Blazers acquired Jeri-Leon from the Americans earlier this month.

Quinn Benjafield gave the Blazers a 2-1 lead with his 2nd of the season six minutes into the third while the Blazers playing with a two-man advantage.

Nolan Yaremko scored with 6:44 left to force overtime.

Dylan Ferguson was solid in goal stopping 22 of 24 shots.

The Blazers had 31 at Patrick Dea.

Garrett Pilon with two assists and a threat every time he was on the ice, was the games first star.

The goaltenders, Ferguson and Dea were the second and third stars.

The Blazers are off now until next weekend when they play a home-and-home with the Vancouver Giants, in Langley Friday and back to the Sandman Centre on Saturday,
