Basketball set to open Canada West season

KAMLOOPS — As the soccer season winds down, it’s game on for basketball.   The WolfPack will begin the Canada West season at home this weekend against the MacEwan Griffins.

For the WolfPack women there is only one direction to go — up!

TRU is coming off 2-and-18 last season and last place in the Conference.

Scott Reeves has a mostly veteran team.

The team is vertically challenged, with only two players over 5-10.   Reeves says “I think we can shoot the ball from three quiet well, and we can run — we’re going to be a little bit smaller —- we’re going to play an exciting brand, be quick and shoot a lot of three’s.”

The WolfPack men scrapped into the playoffs last season, a year after winning Canada West silver and going to U Sports nationals for the first time.

Is it possible to return to the dance this season?   Head coach Scott Clark bristles at the question and says “The national tournament is in March, we’re playing in October right now.   I think it would be a mistake to talk about the national tournament.   Right now we’re trying to win on Friday against Grant MacEwan.”
